Capturing Outload Files from DocuSP 3.1 and Later and Forwarding them to C&TS

Enable Debug Logging

Is debug logging enabled?

  1. Open a terminal window.
  2. At the % prompt, type: su <Enter>.
  3. At the # prompt, type: <the DocuSP root password> <Enter>.
  4. At the # prompt, type: grep -i Logging /opt/XRXnps/configuration/server.config <Enter>
  5. If the printer responds with Logging: true, then debug logging is enabled. Go to step 11.

    If the printer responds with Logging: false, then debug logging is disabled. Go to step 6.

To enable debug logging

  1. At the # prompt, type: cd /opt/XRXnps/XRXcert/pce <Enter>.
  2. At the # prompt, type: ./setlogging –f 1 <Enter>. You will be told to restart DocuSP. Don't do it yet.
  3. At the # prompt, type: ./setPPdebug -o 1 <Enter>.
  4. At the DocuSP Print Services dialog, left-click on the menu item: System.
  5. From the drop-down menu, left-click on Restart.

Repeat the process that generated the error message

  1. Repeat the process that generated the error message.
  2. If the system requires a restart before it lets you perform any more tasks, then select Restart from the Clear Fault dialog.
  3. Go to the Job Manager and copy the Job ID# of the job that you tried to print when the error message was generated.

Create the outload files

  1. Logon as Administrator.
  2. Open a terminal window.
  3. At the % prompt, type: su <Enter>.
  4. At the enter root password prompt, type: <the DocuSP root password> <Enter>.
  5. At the # prompt, type: /opt/XRXnps/bin/customer_outload <Enter>.
  6. The printer will respond with

    Logging: true

    - - - - - - - - - - - -

    Logging is enabled

    - - - - - - - - - - - -

    outload directory exists. Please provide Job ID, Job Status, and any fault codes along with a brief description of the problem.

  7. Provide a brief problem description for our engineers’ benefit. <Enter>.
  8. Do you want to enter more description lines? (Y/N) N
  9. The printer will respond with


    LOGS...LOGS...LOGS...

    Ava process = 4858

    Executing bin/bddrivers_getlogs

    Writing ‘xdm0’ driver log(s)

    Logs... logs... logs...

    compressing ... done

    The outload daisy_25_Jan_13:24.tar.Z is located in the /export/home/ftphome/dataXfer directory.

Create FTP Host Site to Capture Your Outload Files

  1. Call (800) 821–2797 and interrupt the electronic message by pressing the "0" button on your telephone. Give the operator your Log ID#, wait to be transferred to 2nd level support and ask the analyst to create a directory at ftp://ftp.xean.xerox.com and to name the folder with your ICSS Log ID#.
  2. Ask him/her to give you the rights you’ll need to upload your outload files.

Transfer Your Outload Files to the C&TS Server

Prepare your files for Transfer

  1. At the # prompt, type: cd /var/spool/XRXnps/inQ <Enter>.
  2. DocuSP 3.1

    At the # prompt, type: cp ####dat /export/home/ftphome/dataXfer <Enter>.

    type: cd /export/home/ftphome/dataXfer <Enter>.

    DocuSP 3.6

    At the # prompt, type:
    cp ####dat /export/home/ftphome/dataXfer/debugLogs <Enter> (where ### is the Job ID# you copied in step 15).

    type: cd /export/home/ftphome/dataXfer/debugLogs <Enter>.
  3. At the # prompt, type: tar cvf outload * <Enter>.
  4. At the # prompt, type: cp outload /export/home/sa <Enter> (to copy the outload file to an accessible directory.

From a Windows™ workstation:

  1. While holding down the key, tap the letter "e" and then release the key (to open a Windows Explorer window).
  2. Click on the address field of the Explorer window, and replace its address with ftp://sa:administ@###.###.###.### (where the ###.###.###.### is your DocuSP's ip address). This will connect you to the directory on your DocuSP server where you copied your outload files.
  3. Drag your outload files to the desktop of your Windows workstation.
  4. Now go back to the Windows Explorer window and replace your DocuSP's ftp address with ftp://xrx-cust:password@ftp.xean.xerox.com/incoming/######### (where the ######### is your ICSS log ID#).
  5. Drag the outload files from your Windows Desktop into the Windows Explorer window you opened in the previous step.
  6. Go back to the DocuSP and clear out the outload information from this job so that the next time this process is required you can obtain accurate information.
  1. Logon as Administrator.
  2. Open a terminal window.
  3. At the # prompt, type: su <Enter>.
  4. At the # prompt, type: <the DocuSP root password> <Enter>.
  5. At the DocuSP 3.1 # prompt,
    type: cd /export/home/ftphome/dataXfer <Enter>.

    At the DocuSP 3.6 and later # prompt,
    type: cd /export/home/ftphome/dataXfer/debugLogs <Enter>.
  6. At the # prompt, type: rm * <Enter>.
  7. At the # prompt, type: exit <Enter>.
  8. At the % prompt, type: exit <Enter>.
  1. Email or call your Remote Support Engineer to let him/her know that the outload has been placed on the ftp host site.
