Uploading test files from a Mac workstation to the xean site

  1. If it's an application file (InDesign, Illustrator, etc.), gather all of the elements (fonts, graphics, pictures, etc.) and Stuff or BinHex the file or else the server will strip the resource fork from your file, rendering it useless. PDFs are supposed to be transferrable into non-Mac environments without losing their resource forks.
  2. Copy or move the file to your desktop.
  3. Double-click on your hard drive icon and browse to your Applications folder, and within that to the Utilities folder.
  4. Double-click on Terminal to open a UNIX terminal window.
  5. In the terminal window, type cd Desktop <Enter> to set your location to your Desktop folder where you copied the file you wish to upload to the xean server.
  6. In the terminal window, type ftp ftp.xean.xerox.com <Enter> to open an ftp session.

It will ask for a user name.
  7. Type xrx-cust <Enter> to enter your user name.

It will ask for a password.
  8. Type password <Enter> to complete your login.
  9. Type cd incoming/###### <Enter> (###### is the folder name your engineer created for your upload) to enter your assigned directory.
  10. Type bin <Enter> to allow you to send binary (and ascii) files without corrupting them.
  11. Type put xXxx.xyz <Enter>

(xXxx.xyz represents the name of the file, case sensitive, you wish to transfer to our xean host)

    to begin your file transfer.
  12. When you've been told by your terminal window that the transfer is complete, call 1-800-821-2797, give the operator your log ID#, contact your engineer and let them know that the file is now on the xean host.
