Installing FreeFlow Remote Print Server
for Mac OS-El Capitan (OS X, v. 10.11)

Disable System Integrity Protection

  1. Reboot your Macintosh workstation.
  2. When you hear the startup gong, hold down your command key and the letter r and continue to hold them down until you see the Macintosh Apple appear on the screen.
  3. Once the workstation has booted, on the menu bar, click on Utilities, and on the drop-down menu, click on Terminal to open a terminal window.
  4. In the terminal window, type csrutil disable, and tap your <return> key to disable System Integrity Protection.
  5. In the terminal window, type reboot and tap your <return> key to reboot your Macintosh workstation.

Enable your Mac workstation to send Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs)

...to your FreeFlow Print Servers so that you can logon to them and can monitor or process jobs, conditions, or reports.

  1. Open TextWrangler text editor. If you don't already have it installed, go to this site, download it, install it, and open it.
  2. In TextWrangler, go to the menu bar, select File and browse to and open /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.rpcbind.plist.
  3. The last two lines of the file read as follows:
    </dict>
    </plist>

    Place your cursor immediately to the left of </dict>,
    type <key>OnDemand</key><false/>
    and tap your <Enter> key to create a line break between what you just entered and </dict>.
  4. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click on File to open a drop-down menu.
  5. In the drop-down menu, click on Save to save the line you've just added, and File:close to close the file.
  6. In the menu bar, at the top of the screen, click on TextWrangler to open a drop-down menu.
  7. In the drop-down menu, click on Quit TextWrangler to quit the application and to close its windows.
  8. Reboot your Mac as follows so that your changes become part of the UNIX kernel, allowing RPCs. FFRPS won't work until you do this.
  1. At the very top left corner of your screen you'll see a small black apple. Immediately to its right is a word that indicates the application that is running. If all applications are closed or inactive it will say Finder. If it doesn't, click on your desktop wallpaper to make Finder the active application.
  2. Click on the apple to open a drop-down menu.
  3. Click on Restart... to open an 'Are you sure?' dialog.
  4. Click on the [Restart] button to restart your Mac.

Enable System Integrity Protection

  1. Reboot your Macintosh workstation.
  2. When you hear the startup gong, hold down your command key and the letter r and continue to hold them down until you see the Macintosh Apple appear on the screen.
  3. Once the workstation has booted, on the menu bar, click on Utilities, and on the drop-down menu, click on Terminal to open a terminal window.
  4. In the terminal window, type csrutil enable, and tap your <return> key to ensable System Integrity Protection.
  5. In the terminal window, type reboot and tap your <return> key to reboot your Macintosh workstation.

Install FreeFlow Remote Print Server for MacOS

  1. Copy FFRPS_2011.12_forMac.zip to your Mac desktop.
  2. On your desktop, double-click on FFRPS_2011.12_forMac.zip to decompress file called install.
  3. Double-click on the install icon to begin the installation process.
  4. When prompted, enter the Mac administrator's password and click on the [OK] button and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Enable FFRPS to display the DFE's software release version and its IP address

  1. Navigate to your Macintosh HD:Applications:FreeFlow_Remote_Print_Server:FreeFlow_Remote_Print_Server.
  2. While holding down the <Control> key, click on the FreeFlow Remote Print Server application to open a drop-down menu.
  3. In the drop-down menu, click on Show Package Contents.
  4. Navigate to and highlight Contents:Info.plist.
  5. Hold down the <Control> key and click with your mouse to open a drop-down menu.
  6. Mouse over Open with and click on Other... to open a Choose Application window.
  7. Select TextWrangler and click on the [Open] button to open Info.plist in TextWrangler.
  8. In the menu bar, click on Edit to open a drop-down menu.
  9. In the drop-down menu, mouse over Find and click on Find... to open a Find field.
  10. In the Find field, type -DJRPC to find a string that begins with
    -DJRPC_ServerThreadPoolSize=300.
  11. Place your cursor immediately to the left of the highlighted characters and type
    -Ddebug=test,info -DlogFormat=no followed by a <space>.
  12. At the top of your screen, in the menu bar to the right of TextWrangler, click on File to open a drop-down menu.
  13. In the drop-down menu, click on Close to save your changes and to close info.plist.
  14. At the top of your screen, in the menu bar to the right of the apple, click on TextWrangler to open a drop-down menu.
  15. In the drop-down menu, click on Quit TextWrangler to exit the application.
  16. Navigate to and open Applications:FreeFlow_Remote_Print_Server:FreeFlow Remote Print Server.
  17. In menu bar at the top of the FreeFlow Remote Print Server window, click on Options to open a drop-down window.
  18. Click on View Columns to open the Column View Settings
  19. Click on the check boxes to the left of 'IP' and 'Printer Release' to place a checkmark in each box.
  20. Click on the [OK] button to accept the changes, to close the Column View Settings window, and to see the 'IP' and the'Printer Release' columns in the FreeFlow Remote Print Server window.
