Installing FreeFlow Remote Print Server for Mac OS

Enable your Mac workstation to send Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs)

...to your FreeFlow Print Servers so that you can logon to them and can monitor or process jobs, conditions, or reports.

  1. On your Macintosh menu bar, click on Go to open a drop-down menu.

  2. Navigate to and highlight Computer/Macintosh HD/System /Library/LaunchDaemons.

  3. Hold down your [Command] key and tap the letter 'i' to open the LaunchDaemons Info window.

  4. On the bottom-right corner of the window, click on the picture of the lock to unlock the properties, allowing you to make changes. You will be prompted for your administrative account password.

  5. Within the LaunchDaemons folder locate the
    OS X v. 10.6 - com.apple.portmap.plist
    OS X v. 10.7, 10.8, 10.9, or 10.10 - com.apple.rpcbind.plist
    file.

  6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 from above to allow yourself to change the com.apple.portmap/rpcbind.plist file.

  7. Hold down the <option> key and drag a copy of com.apple.portmap.plist/com.apple.rpcbind.plist to your desktop.

  8. Follow steps 3 & 4 for the file you just copied to your desktop.

  9. Hold down your <control> key and click on com.apple.portmap.plist/com.apple.rpcbind.plist to open a drop-down menu.

  10. Place your mouse over Open with... and click on TextEdit.
    The last two lines of the file read as follows:
    </dict>
    </plist>

  11. Place your cursor immediately to the left of </dict>,
    type <key>OnDemand</key><false/>
    and tap your <Enter> key to create a line break between what you just entered and </dict>.

  12. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click on File to open a drop-down menu.

  13. In the drop-down menu, click on Close to save the line you've just added and to close the file.

  14. In the menu bar, at the top of the screen, click on TextEdit to open a drop-down menu.

  15. In the drop-down menu, click on Quit TextEdit to quit the application and to close its windows.

  16. Highlight the file you've just edited, hold down the <command> key, and select Get Info.
    Make sure that the file name does not contain the word copy but is the same as the original you dragged to your desktop.
    Then close the Get Info window.

  17. Drag the file you've edited into the Computer/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Launch Daemons folder.

  18. Using steps 3 and 4 as a guideline, set the Privileges for everyone back to Read only, and relock the properties, first for the .plist file, and then for the LaunchDaemons folder.

  19. In the search field at the right side of your menu bar, type in the word Terminal and tap your <Enter> key to open a terminal window.

  20. In the terminal window,
    type cd /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    and tap your <Enter> key.

  21. In the terminal window, type
    sudo chown root com.apple.portmap.plist or
    sudo chown root com.apple.rpcbind.plist
    and tap your <Enter> key.

    When prompted for the password, provide the password for the workstation account that has administrative rights.

  22. Reboot your Mac as follows so that your changes become part of the UNIX kernel, allowing RPCs. FFRPS won't work until you do this.

  1. At the very top left corner of your screen you'll see a small black apple. Immediately to its right is a word that indicates the application that is running. If all applications are closed or inactive it will say Finder. If it doesn't, click on your desktop wallpaper to make Finder the active application.

  2. Click on the apple to open a drop-down menu.

  3. Click on Restart... to open an 'Are you sure?' dialog.

  4. Click on the [Restart] button to restart your Mac.

Install FreeFlow Remote Print Server for MacOS

  1. Copy FFRPS_2011.12_forMac.zip to your Mac desktop.

  2. On your desktop, double-click on FFRPS_2011.12_forMac.zip to decompress file called install.

  3. Double-click on the install icon to begin the installation process.

  4. When prompted, enter the Mac administrator's password and click on the [OK] button and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Enable FFRPS to display the DFE's software release version and its IP address

  1. Navigate to your Macintosh HD:Applications:FreeFlow_Remote_Print_Server:FreeFlow_Remote_Print_Server.

  2. While holding down the <Control> key, click on the FreeFlow Remote Print Server application to open a drop-down menu.

  3. In the drop-down menu, click on Show Package Contents.

  4. Navigate to and highlight Contents:Info.plist.

  5. Follow steps 3 and 4 from page 1 to unlock and to allow Read & Write privileges for this file.

  6. Hold down the Control key and click with your mouse to open a drop-down menu.

  1. Mouse over Open with and click on Other... to open a Choose Application window.

  2. Select TextEdit and click on the [Open] button to open Info.plist in TextEdit.

  3. In the menu bar, click on Edit to open a drop-down menu.

  4. In the drop-down menu, mouse over Find and click on Find... to open a Find field.

  5. In the Find field, type -DJRPC to find a string that begins with
    -DJRPC_ServerThreadPoolSize=300
    .

  6. Place your cursor immediately to the left of the highlighted characters and type
    -Ddebug=test,info -DlogFormat=no
    followed by a <space>.

  7. At the top of your screen, in the menu bar to the right of TextEdit, click on File to open a drop-down menu.

  8. In the drop-down menu, click on Close to save your changes and to close info.plist.

  9. At the top of your screen, in the menu bar to the right of the apple , click on TextEdit to open a drop-down menu.

  10. In the drop-down menu, click on Quit TextEdit to exit the application.

  11. Lock it again and close the GetInfo window.

  12. Navigate to and open Applications:FreeFlow_Remote_Print_Server:FreeFlow Remote Print Server.

  13. In menu bar at the top of the FreeFlow Remote Print Server window, click on Options to open a drop-down window.

  14. Click on View Columns to open the Column View Settings

  15. Click on the check boxes to the left of 'IP' and 'Printer Release' to place a checkmark in each box.

  16. Click on the [OK] button to accept the changes, to close the Column View Settings window, and to see the 'IP' and the'Printer Release' columns in the FreeFlow Remote Print Server window.
