Creating Custom Ringtones for your iPhone

On your Mac

  1. Find tune in YouTube.
  2. Capture its URL.
  3. Open ClipGrab application (downloadable) and insert the URL.
  4. Download audio as mp3.
  5. Open downloaded mp3 in Audacity.
  6. Select portion to be used.
  7. Clip and save in clipboard.
  8. Select all of original in Audacity and replace it with portion saved to clipboard.
  9. Export Audio as AAC.
  10. Name file and the file extension as m4r.
  11. Open iTunes and drag m4r file into iTunes
  12. Connect your iPhone to your Mac.
  13. In left column under Devices, highlight Tones.
  14. Drag your m4r file into the Tones window.

On your iPhone

  1. Open Contacts
  2. Find the person to whom you want to assign the new ringtone.
  3. Select Edit
  4. To the right of Ringtone: Default, click on the > sign.
  5. Scroll down to Ringtones.
  6. Highlight your ringtone.
  7. Click on Done on the top right corner of your screen to return you to your contact (still in Edit mode).
  8. Select Done on the top right corner of your screen to exit Edit mode.
